Another James Writer In The House?

by Megan James on March 4, 2010

By now, those that know me, have an understanding of my deep passion for good content. After growing up with two grandmothers who were English teachers, it was forever engrained in me that I had to know how to write. Essays were “red-marked”, as not many of my book reports, term papers, and biographies got past the “Grandmother English Nazi’s” (as I affectionately called them). They were sticklers for punctuation, pronoun placement, and dangling participles.

Something must have sunk in over the years. As I became content driven, so have my children. My oldest had a great run with Power of the Pen last year (an organization I wholeheartedly support), and my youngest had a folk tale just land in my Inbox with this endorsement from his teacher:

Hi Megan and Mike,

I just want to let you know how impressed I am with the folk tale Evan wrote back in December. I have decided to type it up and enter it into our Young Author’s Contest. I informed Evan this afternoon. He should be very proud of his work and I hope he continues to keep writing! :) I have attached what I submitted to this e-mail.

Thanks!

Beth

The Tricky Frog

One day Mr. Frog was on his lily pad with all the other frogs. Everyone was scared of him because he played tricks. Every Monday he tricked someone. This particular Monday no one was around, except Big Bullfrog. Now Big Bullfrog was the biggest, baddest, toughest frog in town, but Mr. Frog was not afraid. Mr. Frog decided to play a trick on Big Bullfrog. He swam under and flipped Big Bullfrog’s lily pads upside down. Then, he swam home and went to sleep. The next morning Mr. Frog jumped on his lily pad, but it was not his lily pad! Instead, it was an ALLIGATOR!!! Big Bullfrog had sought his revenge!

HILARIOUS. And if you know Evan….even more HILARIOUS!

Keep writing…at least while under my roof. Rock on E – and watch out for those alligators!
